Walls

As I was taking my puppies on their morning walk, we passed by a condo where there is a bigger dog who we never see but always hear.  He barks loud and ferociously.  This makes my little boy bark back in a defensive way and my little girl gets scared and leaps for my arms.

I thought about this dog and how he is enclosed by his fence.  I've never seen him out.  It made me reflect back on a quote I love.  "Sometimes we put up walls.  Not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to knock them down."  The dog had no control over his surroundings and enclosed atmosphere, but the people around us do.

I've found in my experience working with troubled youth that most people who put up walls want you to tear them down.  But first they need to know you really care.  There are so many hurting people in this world who find it simpler to build walls than to reach out for help.  Sometimes we must reach in to them.

Is there anyone in your world that you can reach today?
